People, Leadership & Culture

People, Leadership & Culture Committee

The committee, comprising members representing school principals, business managers/finance officers, community and human resource professionals, met on seven occasions during 2021.

In March the Committee changed its Terms of Reference to include membership of a nominee from the Diocese of Port Pirie. This position was subsequently filled by the Principal of Our Lady of the River School, Berri.

The Committee received regular reports from Catholic Safety, Health and Welfare including work health and safety notifications to SafeWorkSA and incidents reported in the Education Sector; as well as injury management reporting from Catholic Church Insurance.  Senior executives from these two organisations presented their reports to the committee at two meetings each, which provided the opportunity for members to engage in deeper discussions regarding relevant matters.

During 2021 the committee received reports, revised policies and procedures and considered matters of significance to CESA including:

  • Leadership and Workforce Development programs and initiatives
  • Child Protection Reporting including actions taken to meet the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards
  • Workforce Development Plan 2020-2024
  • Status updates on the Human Capital Management Project
  • Strategic reporting on People, Leadership and Culture actions and tasks from the 2021 Corporate Annual Plan
  • Overview of work relating to Pre-Service, Early Career and Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Certification
  • School Leader Recruitment audit
  • Leadership appointments statistics
  • Updated Charter for Staff in Catholic Schools South Australia
  • New School Uniform Policy and Procedure
  • New Recognition and Awards Policy and Procedure.

People, Leadership & Culture Section

The People, Leadership and Culture section continued its strategic reach in three key areas.

  • Human Resources and Workforce Planning led by Ranel R Juanta
  • Leadership and Workforce Development led by Sue Kennedy-Branford
  • System Safeguarding and Development led by Steve Genesin.

Resource implications were noted in the area of leading Culture and Innovation and in the area of System Safeguarding, with the retirement of Steve Genesin in December 2021.  Mr John Foley was appointed to a new position of Manager: Workplace Culture and Innovation for 2022.   Recruitment and appointment for the System Safeguarding position occurred late 2021.  Ms Elysia Ryan was appointed to begin in January 2022 and the early processes enabled strong transition to this important system position.   A section formation and planning day was held on 22 January 2021 to prepare for the year ahead in alignment with the SACCS Corporate Plan.
